What’s our Intiative?

The Sandipani Vidyalaya Programme is a flagship initiative of the Government of Madhya Pradesh aimed at strengthening both academic practices and school-level governance. At its heart lies a strong conviction: school leaders are the agents of change. When empowered with the right tools, training, and support, they can transform schools into thriving centres of learning.

Since 2021, the state has partnered with Peepul as an academic and monitoring support partner. This collaboration focuses on building the capacity of school leaders and teachers, enabling data-driven decision-making, and nurturing a culture of excellence across the public school system. The model is designed to be scalable and sustainable, ensuring system-led change that benefits every child.

The programme has already achieved significant scale, reaching 274 schools across Madhya Pradesh, training and supporting over 1,000 school leaders, equipping more than 10,000 teachers with effective classroom practices, and positively impacting the learning experiences of 300,000 students.

Key Interventions

Resource Creation

To enable leaders, teachers, and students, the programme has developed a suite of codified, practical resources in partnership with the School Education Department (SED):

  • School Leader Handbook: Over 50 step-by-step Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) covering instruction, strategy, and people management.
  • Teacher Handbook: A practical guide to enhance classroom delivery and pedagogy.
  • Student Diary: A co-created tool that builds habits of reflection, self-organisation, and literacy, giving students ownership of their learning journey.

Together, these resources form a comprehensive toolkit that supports all stakeholders in driving holistic school improvement.

Structured Capacity Building

The programme reimagines traditional training models, placing school leaders at the centre of educational change. Capacity-building efforts include:

  • Foundational training and orientation for school leaders and officials.
  • Ongoing, hands-on support through school visits, video conferences, and peer-learning forums.

This structured approach ensures that professional development is practical, continuous, and deeply embedded in the day-to-day functioning of schools.

Reward & Recognition

Motivation and morale are essential for sustaining reform. The programme has established a robust Reward and Recognition system to celebrate the ongoing efforts of educators:

  • Initiatives like Prerak Prayas highlight innovative practices from the field.
  • Teacher of the Month awards showcase excellence in classroom teaching.
  • Regular recognition builds pride, sustains momentum, and creates role models within the system.

These efforts help cultivate a culture where educators feel valued, supported, and inspired to strive for excellence.
