We strengthen government capacity to build high-engagement classrooms
and improve learning in all public schools.

Understanding our impact

We strengthen government capacity

The organisation does not replace the government or run parallel programmes; it works with and through government systems to make them stronger and more effective.

We build high-engagement classrooms

The focus is on transforming teaching and learning processes so that students are actively involved – thinking, participating, and emotionally invested in learning, rather than passively receiving information.

We improve learning in all public schools

The end goal is system-wide improvement in student learning outcomes across all government schools, not just select pilots or model sites.

In the last year, we reached

We took away key lessons

Foundational skills strengthen first, but higher-order learning needs targeted support.

Across Peepul programmes, the biggest gains were in basic skills like reading, counting, and problem-solving. Sustained progress on application and reasoning requires more structured, differentiated support — a lesson relevant for system-level FLN efforts nationwide.

Coaching intensity and quality drive consistent learning gains.

Schools where coaches provided regular, hands-on support saw more even improvements across teachers and students. This highlights the importance of investing in continuous, in-school professional development rather than one-time trainings.

Systemic reforms can diffuse impact beyond direct programme sites.

Early signs of improvement in both Peepul-supported and other government schools show that when state systems adopt and institutionalize effective practices, benefits extend across the ecosystem — though effects may be more muted and it becomes harder to isolate attribution.

And we are thinking deeply about how to get better

How might we define higher-order learning goals more precisely and effectively so teachers can teach them and students can master them?

How might we better support students who are furthest behind?

How might we make coaching and mentoring even more focused and responsive to specific school needs and gaps?

How might we continue to add value in proving systems?

“[Sandipani schools] wouldn’t be where it is without Peepul. They translate vision into bite-sized, high-quality delivery across the system. This level of relationship-building can’t happen without the Peepul team.”

— Rashmi Shami, former MP Education Sec’y
