Our Board and Executive Team

Ramesh has a Business Technology degree in Computer Science from IIT Madras. He has done his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, where he was awarded a gold medal for academic excellence. Ramesh is actively involved in education – he is a trustee on the Board of Akanksha – a leading non-profit institution in India, advisor to Teach for India, and a member of the Board of Overseers of the NYU Tandon School of Engineering.

She was the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women from the year 1999 to 2002. She was appreciated for many issue-based challenges that she handled skilfully.
Formally educated at the Universities of Cambridge, London and Boston, she is currently an independent Consultant engaged with national and international research, advisory and mentoring projects.

As Joint Secretary in the Department of Elementary Education, he was responsible for the launch of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. He was also Secretary, School Education in Madhya Pradesh.
He is presently Vice Chairman, National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP). He serves as an Independent Director on the boards of several companies and on the boards of various non-profits such as Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, Jal Seva Charitable Foundation (WaterAid India), Parivaar Education Society (Kolkata), Foundation to Educate Girls Globally and Samaj Pragati Sahayog (Bagli, Dewas).

An active voice in India’s policy discourse, he has served on several high-level committees and advisory bodies, including those of the Ministry of Finance, NITI Aayog, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Statistics, and the G20 Independent Expert Group established during India’s G20 Presidency. He has also worked closely with several state governments on policy design and economic reforms. His research has been published in leading academic journals, and he writes regularly for Business Standard and The Economic Times. Deepak holds an M.A. in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Maryland.

In 2014, she took small but consistent steps to work closely with the public schools in India under the Exemplar Schools Project. Today she manages a portfolio of 7 programmes spread across Madhya Pradesh and Delhi, where more than 10% of our children can hope for better educational outcomes.
Prior to Peepul, Kruti worked in various management and leadership roles. She kickstarted her career by working at the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, where she specialised in education sector policy, fiscal policy and financial sector reform. Later, she joined the Corporate Executive Board (CEB), in Washington DC where she managed the research, product development and client advisory in for their technology vertical. Later, she shifted to India as the Senior Director to lead CEB’s finance practice in India. At McKinsey and Co., she expertized in diverse sectors such as consumer goods, retail and agri-business.
An economist by training, Kruti has completed her MSc (Development Studies) with a distinction at the London School of Economics, MA (Economics) from the University of Maryland and her BA (Economics) with Distinction from Lady Shri Ram College, University of Delhi.
Kruti was recently recognised on Business World’s 40Under40 List for 2019. She was also awarded Social Entrepreneur of 2019 by Business World. She has been felicitated as Promising Leader for Innovation in Education by the Asian African Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In 2018, Kruti was selected by The Economic Times in their Women Ahead List of 26 women leaders, as Disruptor of the Year by Business World and received the Women Super Achiever 2018 award by World HRD Congress.

Urmila is currently the Education Director for Peepul. She leads the education and academic team at Peepul to run exemplar schools, contextualize and use international best practices, train teachers in both curriculum and pedagogy, design new programmes and develop scalable solutions for learning challenges faced by children from underprivileged backgrounds. With the core belief that every child, regardless of their background, deserves a great education, she joined the organization in 2015 as the Founding Principal of the flagship school started in Delhi in partnership with the South Delhi Municipal Corporation. In that role, she spearheaded the launch of the first PPP school in Delhi, growing the school from an enrolment of 9 to 120 students within the first month of operations.
Earlier in her career, she was the Director for Education at the Ahvaan Trust for Education, where she designed and led an intensive Professional Development Programme for around 30 Teachers across 6 model Delhi Government Schools. She also served as Programme Advisor, Scholarships and Grants at The Tiara Charitable foundation, a privately-owned philanthropic entity where she conceptualized and set up the scholarship programme which identified and supported deserving students irrespective of economic background.
Before joining the social sector, she taught for twenty years in two of India’s most prestigious schools — La Martiniere, Kolkata and The Shri Ram School, New Delhi. At The Shri Ram School, she was a teacher for 15 years and school leader for 5 years. Her first foray into the social sector was made when she volunteered for about 5 years in a school for underprivileged children that her mother had set up in a village close to Kolkata. She trained the teachers of the school and guided them in curriculum.
Her work and her writing have been featured in Times Education Supplement (TES) UK, Business Standard, Times of India and Reader’s Digest. She has spoken at international and national conferences, such as the India Economic Summit 2017 of the World Economic Forum and Imagine, a conference on Special Education Needs. Urmila has an MA in English, B.Ed. and CELTA (A Cambridge Certification for teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).

Previously, he served as Global Vice President at Xiaomi, where he built and scaled the India and South Asia business to market leadership, reaching over 100 million users and approximately US$8 billion in annual revenue.
He has also co-founded a leading fashion e-commerce platform in India and worked at McKinsey & Company, advising organisations across emerging markets.
He brings deep expertise in scaling systems, partnerships, and technology-led transformation.
Academic Advisory Council

He has worked as a consultant to Tata Trust’s education initiatives and served on the expert committee responsible for developing Maharashtra’s State Curriculum Framework for the Foundational Stage.
Nilesh has authored numerous academic papers and articles based on his field experience. ‘Shikata Shikavita’, a compilation of his Marathi articles, has been well received by educators. He also enjoys writing books for children in Marathi.
He is the recipient of the ‘Maharashtra Foundation Award for outstanding social work in the field of education’ (2011), ‘Extraordinary Early Childhood Education Leadership Award’ given by Education World magazine (2017), ‘Rotary Award for Excellence in Service to Humanity’ (2025) and ‘Qimpro Gold Standard Award for Education’ (2025).

Prof. Sarangapani led the Connected Learning Initiative (CLIx), which was awarded the prestigious UNESCO-King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the Use of ICTs in Education in 2018 and also the OER Award for Excellence in 2019.
She has been a key member and trusted advisor of several important national and international committees and task forces, including the UNESCO Teacher Task Force, the Niti Ayog Working Group on Secondary Education, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), the CABE Committee on the National Mission on Teachers and Teaching, and the steering group of the National Curriculum Framework (2005).

An internationally recognised expert in Early Childhood Care and Education, Shubhra has made significant contributions to national policy, curriculum development, institutional capacity building, and education systems strengthening. She has served on several national advisory and expert bodies associated with NCERT, the Ministry of Women and Child Development, IGNOU, and other leading institutions, and has contributed to shaping approaches to early learning, foundational literacy, and inclusive education. She has also served on the Advisory Board of the Language and Learning Foundation.
Throughout her career, she has championed innovative, evidence-driven approaches that bridge grassroots realities with policy and systems-level change. Her work has influenced education programmes and public systems across multiple states, particularly in the areas of early childhood education, foundational learning, teacher professional development, and adolescent transitions.
She brings to the Advisory Body a rare combination of strategic vision, technical expertise, and deep field experience in advancing equitable and transformative learning opportunities for children and young people.

She led the team of textbook writers for the Amity University Press, which worked on designing teaching learning material (textbooks, workbooks, lesson plans and teacher manuals) for primary grades. Sonia has also developed curriculum content and has published picture story books and mathematics teacher resource books with Eklavya and the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), India’s premier curriculum development authority. Sonia has a Masters in Elementary Education from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai and a Bachelors in Elementary Education (B El. Ed.) from Delhi University.
Additionally, she has been trained by Cambridge as a certified speaking examiner for Cambridge’s YLE (Young Learner’s English) Programme. Sonia has spoken at government conferences on innovations in teacher training and at national conferences including University of Chicago’s Teacher Training network group in India.



With over 12 years’ experience in the development sector, Sachin has worked in the education reform space in Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan. His focus has been on school operations, school assessment framework, project planning, implementation and evaluation, training and facilitation.
Previously, he has worked with TESS India, Bharti Foundation, SAMARPAN, and Centre for Community Economics and Development Consultants Society. Sachin has a Master’s degree in Social Work from Devi Ahilya University, Indore.

Currently an independent consultant, Kanishka provides high-level advisory support to senior leaders on strategy, program design, policy and advocacy, research, and monitoring and evaluation. His notable contributions include advising Peepul, a leading Indian education NGO impacting nearly 10
million children, leading the strategy and evaluation of USAID’s \$50 million SAREP program, and co-developing CGAP’s FI Pathfinder, an AI-powered evidence platform. He has also played pivotal roles in the Disability Impact Fund, the Sports and Society Accelerator, and NITI Aayog’s State Support Mission.
Previously, he was an Associate Partner at Dalberg Advisors, where he was part of the founding team in Asia and contributed to its growth from 10 to 150 staff. He has led landmark initiatives such as the World Bank’s Africa Energy Access Flagship and India’s State of Aadhaar initiative.
