What’s our Intiative?

The School Systems Transformation Programme, launched in partnership with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), focuses on enhancing foundational learning outcomes in MCD-run schools. The initiative drives academic, administrative, and governance reforms, building long-term system capacity to improve teaching and learning at scale.

The programme has two core domains:

  • Mentor Teacher Professional Development (MTPD): Supporting mentor teachers to provide high-quality training and coaching.
  • Strengthening Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN): Developing toolkits and content workshops piloted in Karol Bagh and then scaled citywide.

Since 2022, Peepul has worked closely with MCD to support mentor teachers, analyse classroom data, and design solutions to address on-ground challenges. Teachers of Grades 1–3 have been trained in Math and Hindi pedagogy, as well as classroom management strategies, with best practices from pilot zones cascaded across all of Delhi’s MCD schools.

Key Interventions

On Ground Implementation Support

To ensure lasting impact, the programme prioritises academic monitoring and classroom support. Following each training session, Peepul conducts:

  • Observation visits to reinforce workshop learnings.
  • Baseline and endline assessments to track student progress.
  • Ongoing data analysis, enabling mentors and teachers to identify gaps and adapt teaching.

These insights directly inform the refinement of toolkits, training content, and mentoring strategies, ensuring all support remains data-driven and responsive.

Capacity-building Workshops

Hands-on, data-driven teacher workshops, are delivered through a Training Resource Centre in Karol Bagh, focused on subject pedagogy and classroom management. These sessions have already shown strong results, with teacher scores improving from 26% to 46%.

Reward & Recognition

To sustain momentum, the programme recognises mentor teachers for their leadership and expertise. By spotlighting achievement and fostering collaboration, the initiative builds a culture of continuous improvement across schools.
