Our Impact
At Peepul, we are working relentlessly to transform government schools in India. We believe that every child, regardless of their background, deserves access to quality education that empowers them for the future. We work with the government to create interactive classrooms, upskill teachers and school leaders to turn schools into centers of academic excellence.
From shutting down to shooting to the top:
The story of a government school
GHSS Vinoba, a government school in Ratlam established in 1991, serves the tribal community of the area. The school struggled with low awareness, which led to poor enrollment and attendance. Weak leadership and infrastructural issues further demotivated teachers. By 2018-19, attendance dropped to 25%, with only 70 students for 30 teachers, prompting plans for closure.
To address this problem, the Madhya Pradesh State Education Department announced its visionary CMRISE School project, which, through its ‘Whole School Transformation’ initiative, plans to upgrade more than 9000 schools into best-in-class models in the state. Peepul was invited to be a part of this transformation. Gradually, implementing innovative strategies yielded remarkable results in student attendance, acceptance from the community, teacher motivation levels, administrative reforms and overall school academic results in the Ratlam school, also a part of the CMRISE project.
Due to persistent efforts, school attendance surged to 85-90% from 25%. The 10th Board results also improved from 29% to 82%. Presently, 85% of total primary and middle-grade students enrolled can read and write as per grade level as compared to 27% previously. The community also took active participation in their ward’s education, as attendance of parents in PTMs surged from 20-30% to 90%. These achievements demonstrate that even with limited resources, the school could drive significant improvements in student learning through empowered teachers and school leaders, an efficient administrative system and a strong system in place.
In 2024, CMRISE Vinoba School, for its remarkable turnaround and best practices, was awarded the ‘World’s Best School Prize’, a global education honour bestowed by the London-based T4 Education. In doing so, it surpassed schools from the US, UK, Thailand, and Mexico, among others. It’s a testament to the resilience and dedication of everyone involved that brought a school on the verge of shutdown to the pinnacle of success and also running a waiting list for students to enroll.
