Mission Education in Alirajpur,
Madhya Pradesh
Alirajpur is a remote tribal district in India, one of the eight districts in the country identified with poor student learning outcomes. Peepul will provide focused support to ensure that students from Grade 3 to 5 acquire proficiency level in foundational literacy and numeracy. The Programme applies targeted efforts and sustainable solutions to improve educational performance in the district.
ONLY 6% OF GRADE 3 STUDENTS IN ALIRAJPUR ARE AT PROFICIENT LEVEL IN LANGUAGE WITH TRANSITION RATE FROM PRIMARY TO UPPER PRIMARY STANDING AT A LOW 73.8%

Challenges
Alirajpur is a district with complex challenges that obstruct learning in the schools.

The district's difficult topography leads to low attendance in schools as there is limited or no public transportation in these spaced- out settlements.

Lack of sensitisation towards the importance of education discourages learning.

The low-income tribal communities in the district depend on migration to earn daily wages where children accompany the families interrupting their education.

Absence of strong figures in the academic staff to champion the cause of literacy in the district.
Programme Design
Structured Governance Processes and Teacher Professional Development is designed into the Programme.

Customised training modules are designed for the capacity building of Academic staff in the schools.

Mentorship Programmes are created for proper implementation of responsibilities.

An impact assessment framework is designed for regular evaluation and to measure improvement.

Field visit combined with on-ground support is devised for effective programme management and review.
